The Power of Perspective: Transforming Pain into Purpose

It’s not usually our hardships or circumstances that cause us pain, but rather our thoughts about them. Our circumstances are neutral. Two people can be in the same situation and think about it differently.
Learning that I get to decide what things mean helped me so much. It opens us to different perspectives and shows us things we would have never considered. While we don’t get to decide what happens to us, we do get to choose how we will think about it.
The choice is a great power. With our thoughts, we can decide whether we want to be victims of our circumstances or overcomers of them.
Romans 12:2 KJV
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
How often do we allow the enemy to control our thinking?
Satan wants to keep us stuck in places of unfairness and pity. He wants us to wallow in the wrongdoings and always go to the worst-case scenario in our minds. The enemy wants us to adopt thoughts of hopelessness and helplessness so he can control us.
For many years, he has told me I don’t fit in because I’m not good enough. When I believe this thought, I stay stuck in a pain cycle. My thoughts continuously loop and seek evidence that I’m not good enough.
But the other day, I saw something that challenged that belief. It said, “You don’t fit in because your calling is higher. “
One thought makes me feel like a victim, and the other makes me feel like an overcomer. One makes me feel like I’m not worthy to be a child of God, and the other one makes me feel chosen and handpicked by Him. One tears me down, and the other one lifts me up.
The Bible contains stories of people who didn’t fit in with the world. God chose each of them for a specific purpose.
What if Noah had wanted to fit in more than obey God? He wouldn’t have built the ark and fulfilled his purpose. What if Jesus had desired to be liked more than He wanted God’s will to be done? We would all be without a savior, lost in our sins.
Sometimes, we need to extract the painful thoughts from our minds that hurt us, keep us stuck, and lay them before Jesus. We need to tell Him how we feel and ask Him to give us a Godly perspective.
God’s perspectives empower and humble us. I love God’s thoughts about things. So many times, He has taken my tears of sorrow and turned them into happy tears by changing one thought.
Sweet friends, if you are in pain or struggling with something, take it to God. Lay every drop of sorrow at his feet and ask Him to help you with it. Let Him turn your heartaches into blessings.
