If It Steals My Peace, It’s Too Expensive

What do you want to feel?

It’s such a simple question, but the understanding can be profound. If we make decisions that don’t align with how we want to feel, then we will keep ourselves in places of misery.

Take me, for example; I want to feel peace. The older I get, the more I appreciate the simplicity of feeling peaceful. So, if I constantly choose to do things that bring chaos, I will feel stress instead of peace.

Understanding this about myself and making decisions based on what I want to feel has helped me so much. It has stopped me from sweating the small things. We can allow minor irritations between us and prioritize being right over peaceful.

It also helps me to make big decisions. I have a big heart and desire to help others. For so long, I just jumped into helping others without considering what it might do to me. Now, I like to pause and talk it over with the Lord.

If it steals my peace, then it is too costly for me. When I feel overwhelmed and stressed, I can’t help anyone. I will come unglued and react in ways that hurt others.

But when I align with God, I can pray, follow Him, and trust Him to do what is best for me. I know I don’t have to fix or try to control things, but I can trust God to take care of it all for me.

It’s a beautiful process when we surrender everything to Him and trust Him to do what is best for us.

Sometimes, I try to fix things, but I make a mess out of it partly because I can’t see the whole picture. I only understand things from my perspective and what I can see. But God understands it all. He knows why He allows certain things to happen to us.

When I accept reality and believe it is best for me, I can grow through my hardships and allow them to make me better, not bitter. And God can help me have inward peace through life’s storms.
