The enemy works in our minds. Do you ever pause and listen to the constant chatter? My mind is very seldom ever quiet. It narrates my life and tries to make me believe those thoughts are me.
I know my thoughts are from the enemy because they are usually negative. If I listen, he will give me a negative assessment of my day. My thoughts are complaints, judgments, cravings, jealousy, and worst-case scenarios.
If left unchecked, the negative thought spiral continues all day. It exhausts me and has me feeling horrible about myself and others. The more I listen and believe, the more power it has over me.
Satan can make us dread our days and barely survive our lives. When he gets us torn down enough, he tries to sell us hopelessness and tell us that it will never get better. In hopelessness, we are weak and struggle to fight against it.
As I have been dissecting my thoughts and looking at my thought patterns, it shocks me how he has sneaked his way into my life every day and caused me unnecessary pain.
When I tell you that warfare is in our minds, it really is. The Bible speaks of it as the thorn in our flesh. Jesus gives us a wonderful example of how to deal with this when He has conversations with Satan. The enemy tries to get Jesus to believe his lies, but Jesus is not fooled. Instead, He contradicts the lies with God’s word.
Anytime, we have a thought that discourages us, we need to check it against God’s word. God will not speak discouragement to us.
God’s word encourages us.
It inspires us.
It gives us hope.
It calms us.
It gives us peace.
It makes us want to do better and be better.
God’s word is rooted and grounded in love.
The enemy tries to control us with fear and insecurities. Awareness is the first step. When we recognize the enemy’s lies and manipulation, we can take them to God.
Sweet friends, we don’t have to stay in pain. We can break free. I want the mind of Christ that the Bible mentions. I want to be more like Jesus and dismiss the enemy as soon as he starts speaking. I want to be so focused on God’s will for my life that I don’t get easily distracted by the enemy’s empty promises or fear.
I’m so thankful we have Jesus to help us. He has defeated Satan. Jesus knows the enemy’s ways and how to help us overcome every plan or scheme the enemy might conjure up. So, we can go through our day with the assurance that God loves us and will help us. In Him, we have EVERYTHING we need and so much more.
