Choose the person you want to be

While God created us all in His image, we get to choose the kind of person we want to be. God gave us all the freedom to choose our thoughts, feeling, and actions. It truly opened my eyes when I realized this truth.

For so many years, I blamed my circumstances. But our circumstances are neutral. It’s not what happens to us that defines us, but what we choose to do with it.

We can follow generational ways of heartache and pain or choose to be the one who breaks the cycle and makes a new way. The same is true for generational blessings. We might forsake our gifts if we step off the old path and follow the world.

The only way to truly become our best self is to follow the Lord.

When we follow the Lord, we walk in truth, love, kindness, humbleness, honesty, and the power of His goodness. God is the light, and when we walk with Him, His light illuminates us. It guides our way and even shows others the way. Without His light, we stumble in the darkness and harm ourselves and others.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how the enemy tries to mimic the Lord. He represents a fakeness that can be deceiving if we are not following the Lord. Satan speaks of love while radiating hatred. He says words of friendship while plotting to destroy us. It takes God to open our eyes to his ways and show us the truth.

We should pray continuously about all things. Before inviting someone into our lives, we should discuss it with God. He knows the intent of every person. While I am naive, God is all-wise, powerful, and has our best intention in mind.

Therefore, I choose to love even after being hurt numerous times. I choose kindness because I know how it feels when others are rude. Though it’s painful, I decide to show up and let God mold me into a better version of myself.

Sometimes the most challenging conversations I have with the Lord are when I ask Him to reveal the truth and open my eyes to my sins and weaknesses. And then to show me how to do better.
