Breaking Free from the Prison of Comfort

It’s so tempting to hide. Our comfort zones create a perfect illusion of safety. We think if we can hide deep enough, the pain and discomfort won’t be able to find us. But the truth is that our comfort zones steal our dreams, our joy, and even our lives.
The longer we stay tucked in the safety of our comfort, the longer we live in fear and pain. We choose the pain that we know over the discomfort of the unknown.
I did this for years with my scars. I hid them and suffered because of it. Every day, I denied myself and tried to live in a small bubble I had created for myself. All the while, my soul longed for freedom. Even though I had the power to unlock the prison I had made for myself, I chose to stay locked inside of my fears, judgments, and false identity.
I refused to show anyone the real me. So, I lived in a lonely, self-inflated prison. And my world got smaller with each day. I was afraid of everything.
Even though my heart desired the light and all it would bring, I chose the darkness. I didn’t think I deserved the blessing of living in the light.
Here’s the crazy part: I allowed the enemy to tell me WHAT I DESERVED. I listened to someone who wanted to destroy me.
Slowly, God helped me break the chains the enemy had bound around me. God revealed each limitation and lie the enemy had told me, teaching me how to overcome them one at a time.
God is the one who has everything we need. He gives us courage when we feel afraid and faith to encourage us to trust Him. God gives us strength when we feel weak and guidance when we don’t know what to do.
God is the light. When we seek Him and trust Him to do what is best for us, He will bless us in extraordinary ways. We don’t have to settle for the pain the enemy offers us. We can overcome it all through God.
Matthew 5:15 KJV
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
