Will you only serve God?

We can choose to ignore God. He doesn’t force us to serve or obey Him. However, there are significant consequences for straying from His path; at times, these consequences can be more than we are willing to bear.

Finding ourselves in an unfamiliar land is hard because we’ve drifted so far away from the Lord that we can’t even recognize ourselves. It’s tough to realize that we have inflicted pain upon ourselves.

God nudged us, but we ignored Him.

God pricked our hearts, but we continued.

The farther we walk away from Him, the harder it all becomes. We lose our identity because we act in a way that is not authentic to who we are. We lose our sense of purpose because if God is not in it, it doesn’t satisfy the deepest parts of us. We can work hard but never feel accomplished because we put all our effort into the wrong thing.

Following the enemy does not bring glory. It depletes us and makes us feel exhausted. We start to feel hopeless because, despite our hard work, we aren’t making any progress. When those hopeless feelings linger for too long, we become depressed.

We don’t see a way out. After all, nothing could make a difference. We wallow in the negativity of it all. And then, the lies of the enemy are so easy to believe.

Satan tries to get us away from the Lord so he can break us down. When we are starving for the truth, the hope things will get better, and way out of it all, any little glimmer of possibility seems good. In this state, we cling to anything resembling what we want and need.

But Satan only creates illusions. He can’t give us what we need. The more we believe his illusions, the more depleted we feel. He makes us promises that he can’t keep. Remember when Satan tempted Jesus?

Jesus had fasted for forty days and nights, and he was hungry. Satan promised Jesus the kingdoms of the world and their glory if only Jesus would worship him. I love what Jesus told him.

Matthew 4:10 KJV

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Jesus wasn’t interested in anything the devil had to offer him. He knew who owned it all, so he only served God.

I don’t want the illusion of God’s blessings or a made-up spirit. Anything without the Lord is an illusion. I don’t want to believe or chase something that is not real.

The happiness, security, and peace the enemy promises are not real. He can’t give us something that is not his to give. Satan can’t bless us. If we follow him, it will lead straight to pain and suffering.

God is the way, the truth, and the life. If we want a good life, we need to choose to serve the Lord and only Him.
