Whatever Happens, God Will Be There

Is fear holding you back?

The enemy loves to create illusions of fear and make us afraid of what might happen. He wants us to think the worst and become paralyzingly afraid that it might happen. And if it does, it will destroy us. 

Fear moves us farther away from God and into the darkness. In the dark corners of our minds, the thing we fear becomes bigger than our God. Therefore, we go deeper into the fear until it consumes our thoughts and actions. 

We don’t overcome fear by being strong and believing nothing bad will ever happen. We overcome fear by believing that whatever happens, God will be with us. 

The more we get to know God and have experiences with Him, the stronger our faith becomes. God might not prevent us from going through hardships or finding ourselves immersed in the fire, but He will be with us there. Just as He was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, we are never abandoned in the fire.

I bet they had a different view of God coming out of the fire. They had an experience with God. 

We also have experiences with Him. When God performs a miracle right before our eyes, it strengthens our faith. The more we get to know God, the less power the enemy has over us. 

I call them awe moments. They are the moments when everything looks hopeless, but then God shows up in a way only He can. We stand there looking at what He has done and realize once again: my God is bigger than the thing I feared.

And there’s something important about these moments: remembering yesterday’s awe can strengthen today’s faith.

When the next fear comes, you have history with God. You can say, I’ve been afraid before. I’ve thought there was no way before. And God met me there.

My thumb story is one of my favorite awe moments. I was told I wouldn’t get better; that I would live with chronic, debilitating pain for the rest of my life. My doctors assured me that nothing could be done to help me. But then God showed up. 

Amid my fire, He made a way. God offered a perspective that no one had considered before. He arranged the meeting with the specialist and created a way to help me. Throughout the process, I came to know God more deeply. 

He cared about my pain and made a way to help me. 

He was with me every step of the way. 

He held me when the pain was unbearable, and the fear overpowered me. 

Isaiah 41:10 KJV

¹⁰ Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

God doesn’t promise us that we will never face hardships or that every part of our lives will be easy. But He does promise to be with us, to strengthen us, and to help us. Fear says, what if this bad thing happens. But faith replies, even if it does, God will help me. 

So when the enemy whispers words of fear and asks, “What if?” I want to remember my awe moments. I want to remember every fire where God met me, every impossible place where He made a way, and every moment when His strength carried me.

Fear tells me to stare at what might happen. Faith tells me to remember who God is.

Sweet friend, we don’t have to know that everything will turn out exactly the way we want before we move forward. We only need to know that wherever we go, God goes with us.

Don’t let fear of what might happen keep you from following the God who already knows what will happen.
