What If You’re in God’s Way?

Are you full or barely surviving?

The enemy loves to distract us. If he can get us to focus on anything other than what the Lord wants us to focus on, then he wins. He will have us trying to take care of others, focusing on their problems, and giving them all of our energy, while neglecting ourselves. I’ve been there and done that many times.

Then it occurred to me one day, am I going to stand before the Lord and tell Him I couldn’t write the books on my heart because I was too busy in someone else’s business?

Sweet friends, I am a helper by nature. I want to help others get out of pain. But God doesn’t want me to set myself on fire to help others.

For years, I ignored my pain. My body was on fire with inflammation, I couldn’t sleep for the pain, and yet I put my needs aside for others. I tried to fix their problems, but I ignored my own. And here’s the absolute truth. It wasn’t my place to try to fix or take away their pain.

Sometimes, we get in God’s business. We think we know what others need, so we wear ourselves out trying to meet their unspoken needs. And sometimes we make things worse. Recently, I learned this truth.

As hard as it feels, sometimes we just need to get out of God’s way. We need to let others go through their hardships so they turn to God and not us. Occasionally, God will send them to us to help. But if He doesn’t, we need to try to stay out of it. I say try, because the Lord only knows how hard it is for me at times.

If you reached out to me right now, I would try my very best to help you. While I talked to you, I would whisper silent prayers, asking God to help me to help you. But I’m also trying to stay in my lane and let God be God.

If He gives me something to share or something to do, I try to do it. Otherwise, I try to stay out of it. And my life is more peaceful. I also have lots more time to write, create, and sit with the Lord.

What has God put on your heart to do that you are neglecting? What areas of your life do you need to focus on?

When I feel overwhelmed and stressed, it helps me to ask myself, whose business am I in?
