What Does God’s Presence Look Like in Your Life?

Do you ever think about God’s mighty presence and what it means in your life?

When I truly think about where God is in my life, I can see evidence of Him all around me. That’s because I know Him and I am looking for Him.

Some days He walks beside me, and I feel His presence. I know He’s there because I feel Him and I hear His precious voice.

Other times I feel so weak that I don’t think I can possibly make it another moment, but somehow I do. That’s when I know God was underneath me, holding me up.

Sometimes I feel completely overwhelmed, and my heart cries out to Him. Amid the pain and uncertainty, I feel Him kneeling beside me in prayer. God protects us and fights for us.

Psalm 139:5 KJV

5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

When I am strong enough to walk, He walks with me.

When I am too weak to stand, He holds me.

When my heart breaks, He meets me there.

Behind me. Before me. Around me.

The presence of God surrounds my life.

I’m so thankful God doesn’t define me only by my failures. He sees all of me, knows how desperately I need Him, and still loves me.

It breaks my heart to think about people who live without abundant love and have never had their name attached to a prayer. Perhaps no one has ever taught them about the Lord or helped them recognize His goodness. Maybe love has been so absent from their lives that when we talk about the love of God, it feels foreign to them.

That’s where I want to do better. I want eyes to see people as Jesus sees them. I want to see people as souls who need Jesus, because the truth is, we all do.

We all need to feel the mighty presence of God and to walk as if He walks with us. People need to be able to see that there is something different about us. Our words need to match our actions and the condition of our hearts.

I don’t want my prayers to stop at the borders of my own life. I want them to reach upward to God, outward toward others, and into the forgotten places where someone may desperately need to know that they are seen.

I never want my heart to get cold or step into self-righteousness, where I think some deserve love and prayers and others don’t. We don’t know what some people have endured.

I’m so thankful God sees my soul and not my sins. Because if He withheld love from me because of my sins, I would be in bad shape. But God is a powerful, steady force in my life. He loves me and corrects me. My God is always there for me.

God has been beside me when I walked. He has held me when I couldn’t stand. He has met me when my heart was broken. He has loved me, corrected me, forgiven me, and shown me grace when I didn’t deserve it.

Now I want His presence in my life to become visible through the way I love other people.

I want someone who feels forgotten to encounter compassion when they meet me. I want someone who thinks no one cares to discover that somebody is praying their name. I want someone who doesn’t know Jesus to see something different—not because I’m better, but because He is with me.

Sweet friend, God’s presence isn’t something I only want to feel.

It’s something I want others to experience through the way I live and love.
