What Are You Running From?

What are you running from?

It’s such a simple question with so much attached to it. We can’t rush through it. This one needs us to sit with the Lord and inquire. While it can be so painful to sit, when we want to run, it can also be beneficial.

Being completely honest about the hidden parts of ourselves helps us heal. We can’t heal what we won’t feel.

The enemy wants us to stuff down any unwanted or unpleasant emotions. He tries to distract us with something else. Anything to stop the pain. But when we confront the pain with God, we can overcome it.

Imagine having a big splinter in your hand. You can put a bandage over it to hide it, but every time something hits it, the pain resurfaces. The pain will be there until you remove the splinter. Ignoring it doesn’t stop it from hurting. Even Tylenol or other pain medicine only works for so long. As soon as they wear off, the pain returns. The only way to truly heal is to remove the splinter. Then the affected area will heal properly.

It’s the same way with us and our painful experiences. We have to acknowledge them so we can pray about them and ask God to show us how to overcome them. There’s something so powerful about laying it all out at the feet of Jesus. When we can honestly tell Him how we feel and ask Him to give us a Godly perspective about it all. Jesus can reveal things to us that we never considered before.

He heard conversations we didn’t.

He saw actions and heart postures that we couldn’t.

He knows why we all do the things we do.

When I think of how long I have carried unnecessary pain in my life, that I could have laid at the feet of Jesus and walked away from, it breaks my heart. I’ve gone through my days trying to carry things that were never meant to be carried, and dragged all my heartaches with me each day. No wonder I was so exhausted.

God can help us uncover, process, and heal it all. He can open our eyes to things causing us pain, without us even truly knowing. He can open our eyes, hearts, and minds to new possibilities.

Sweet friend, you don’t have to stay in pain. God has grace for your every need. He knows exactly how to help you. Today, instead of running as fast as you can, pause and sit with God.
