Trusting God Over Ourselves

Who are you relying on?

I can be stubborn. I have an I-can-figure-it-out mindset. While that serves me well in some ways, it also harms me in others. Because if I live in self-reliance, I fail to rely on God.

My own self-reliance makes me think I should:

Understand.

Control.

Decide.

Know best.

Therefore, I make my own decisions and rely on myself. But that actually goes against Scripture.

Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

There’s so much freedom and peace in relying on God. When something comes up, instead of immediately trying to figure it all out, I can take it to the Lord and ask for guidance.

I don’t have to understand everything.
I don’t have to control everything.
I don’t have to know what comes next.

I just need to trust the One who does. Trusting and acknowledging the Lord takes the pressure off of us. We can seek His guidance, follow where He leads, and trust Him with what we cannot see.

Because God knows best.
