The enemy tries to paint the most terrifying image possible. He wants us to go to doom and gloom in our minds constantly. In all honesty, he doesn’t have to create real pain or trauma; he just has to make us believe it in our minds. If we believe it, his lies become our truth. And we will act accordingly.
He can convince us that we are exhausted after getting out of bed. He used to do this to me. I had a watch that told me how I slept. If my sleep stats were good, I felt energized. If it told me I didn’t sleep well, then I would go down a negative thought spiral and convince myself that I was clearly exhausted. One day, I thought, I slept so good last night, I bet my sleep stats are excellent today, but when I opened the app, I saw the opposite. According to my watch, I had been restless all night and never entered my REM sleep, so I started doubting how I felt. Right then, I knew that I couldn’t allow technology to tell me how to feel.
Whenever negativity enters our minds, we need to examine it immediately. I believe this is what it means to take every thought captive. Negative thoughts never make me feel good. Therefore, I want to take them to the Lord and ask Him to show me how to think about the situation.
God can show us different perspectives that we never considered before. He can help us take the shadows of fear and bring them into the light. In the darkness, our unexamined thoughts can seem so scary. But in the light and wisdom of God, we can see them as untruths and scare tactics from the enemy.
Sweet friends, we have the mind of Christ. We just need to utilize it. God can show us how to think about everything. Learning how to think Godly thoughts diminishes our pain.
Take the thought causing you pain and uncertainty and put it at Jesus’ feet. Ask Him to help you with it, and He will.
