The Mind is a Camera—Focus on the Good

Sometimes, we complicate things. If the problems seem really big to us, we think they must be really big to God, too. But that’s not true.
God’s ways are simple.
The enemy tries to magnify our problems and make them seem more significant than they are. He does this to me all the time. If we allow him to, Satan will keep us discouraged, distracted, and feeling ultimately defeated.
Every negative thought comes from the enemy, who continuously speaks words of fear to us. Fear is a powerful way to control us, but there is an even more powerful way to live—through faith and trusting God.
When we choose to trust God through the storms, we overcome them. The storms raging all around us don’t have any power over us. God will hold us secure.
However, it’s the turmoil we allow to get inside of us that creates so much pain. We hurt ourselves whenever we believe one of the enemy’s lies. His lies are weapons in this war, meant to destroy.
“Research shows that 75 to 98 percent of mental, physical, and behavioral illness comes from one’s thought life,” Dr. Caroline Leaf—excerpt from Switch on Your Brain.
Knowing this helps me to understand the true power of my thoughts. The moment Satan tries to sneak his lies into my mind, I want to dismiss them and redirect my thoughts to those of love and gratitude.
Thinking ugly, negative thoughts makes me feel bad. It switches on my doom and gloom mindset.
When I do school visits, I tell the kids our mind is like a camera. It will focus on whatever we tell it to. So, if we focus on the bad, that is what we will look for and ultimately find. If we only look for the bad, we will start believing our world is terrible. But the same is true for the good. If we tell our minds to search for the good and only capture it, we will believe our life is beautiful.
We can change our lives if we train our minds to focus on gratitude and love. God gave us all free will, so we can decide what we think and how we react.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 KJV
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
When we notice our negative thoughts and take them to the Lord, He will help us overcome each one. God can help us live our very best lives.
