Shift Your Focus, Change Your Life

The enemy attacks your mind.

While I know there are scientific explanations for depression and anxiety. Feelings of hopelessness and helplessness are also weapons the enemy uses against us.

He wants us to focus on how big our problems look and feel. Satan uses scare tactics and lies as part of his warfare. If he can distract us with our fears and insecurities, then he can weaken us.

In our weakened state, we fear what he might do to us. He uses our past against us. And the fear of our future to control our present. When we become fearful, we often shrink and try to hide.

Partly because the enemy attacks our character and identity. He wants us to believe that we are not called, nor good enough, to do work on our hearts. Satan cannot defeat us. We have the victory through Christ. But he can get us to doubt, hide, delay, and defeat ourselves.

Sweet friends, sometimes the attacks are so painful. I recently had a situation that knocked me down. All I could do was cry. It was an attack on my writing, speaking, character, and identity. I wallowed in it. For days, I questioned it all. In the darkest moments, I wanted to quit. I mean, why not? I was already defeated.

The enemy took the situation, twisted it, and manipulated it to hurt me even more. His lies can build a pretty strong case against us. As long as I focused on the pain, I couldn’t see the blessings.

Satan can take years of blessings and destroy them if we listen to him.

In these moments, we must intentionally shift our focus

The enemy wants us to focus on:

opposition

delay

criticism

weakness

pain

lack

But, we need to focus on:

God’s presence

God’s power

God’s promises

God’s purpose

God’s eternal reward

When we seek spiritual focus, we can have Godly perspectives about things. We can move forward with faith rather than be paralyzed by fear.

In these times, we have to remember who called us. God uses us and our weaknesses to shine through so others know it was Him who did the work. Our brokenness lets the light shine through. The pain and suffering we endure give others hope. The calling God placed on our lives is not about us. It’s about showing others Jesus.

When we keep our eyes focused on Jesus, we can endure the hardships of this world. Knowing that the eternal rewards are far greater than any hardships we might encounter.

2 Corinthians 4:17 KJV

17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
