There’s something so beautiful about being completely honest with the Lord. To sit before Him in all of our shame and pain, and ask Him to forgive us.
Sometimes the first step toward surrender is simply telling God the truth:
I’m angry.
I’m hurt.
I’m afraid.
I’m disappointed.
I don’t understand.
I’m tired of waiting.
I want to control this because I’m afraid of what will happen if I don’t.
There’s something wonderful about coming before God without pretending. We’re not giving Him information He doesn’t already know. We’re finally opening our hands around something He already sees us carrying.
And perhaps that’s where surrender begins. Not with pretending we’re okay. But with admitting what we are carrying and that we need God’s help to put it all down.
I read something this morning that spoke so loudly to my soul.
There is a kind of tiredness that needs sleep.
There is another kind that needs surrender.
Have you ever lain around for days, slept more than enough and still felt drained and exhausted? Maybe the answer is not more sleep, but more prayer. More honesty with God. More forgiveness. More knowing that we can’t do it on our own.
Maybe it’s asking God to remove the bitterness inside of us. To help us overcome the distractions stealing our focus. And the need to control it all.
God knows what we need. And sometimes the most beautiful thing we can do is to humbly approach Him in surrender. When we surrender our timelines, outcomes, fears, and insecurities to God, we make room to receive His peace. And sometimes, that peace is the rest our souls have been desperately needing.
