Power in Choice: Overcoming Temptation

The enemy can’t make us do anything, but he can undoubtedly entice us. When we consider his temptations, they grow. Until it feels like we don’t have a choice, but we do.

Having the ability to decide what we will do is a powerful gift God gave us. We all have the ability to choose. When temptation arises, we have a few minutes to decide. The urge will leave if we firmly decide not to do whatever it is. But if we hesitate and talk it over with the enemy, he will most likely persuade us that it won’t harm us.

When we do something, knowing it is bad but choosing to do it anyway, we have fallen victim to the enemy’s schemes. I smoked for years, knowing it was so bad for me but feeling powerless and unable to stop. Every day, I allowed the enemy to defeat me. And I suffered because of it.

But the beautiful part is that we don’t have to suffer. We can decide to stop, regain our power, and triumph over Satan at any moment. All it takes is the decision to stop. Once we determine we don’t want to do something any longer, we can pray for the strength to persevere.

God has everything we need. He can show us how to bring our flesh under subjection. If we take it all to Him in prayer, God will show us how to defeat the enemy and to be grateful for it. Every day, I am so thankful I stopped smoking. I honestly don’t miss it all.
