Living Without Regret: How to Stop Dwelling on the Past and Start Following God Now

Have you ever wished you could change something from the past?

Isn’t it ironic that we spend so much time thinking about our previous decisions and wishing we could change them, all the while not making the decisions we need to right now to change our lives?

This focus on the past may not be accidental at all. It’s often a subtle tactic by our enemy to keep us from acting in the present.

If he can get us to live in any moment other than the one we are in right now, then he can get us to delay making our decisions. Because he knows the power of a deliberate decision. The longer we stay in indecision, the weaker our resolve to do it becomes.

That’s exactly where the enemy wants us to be. He wants us to think about our doubts and strengthen them. The stronger our doubts become, the harder it is to make a decision and to take action.

When we decide that we are going to do it or die trying, we take quitting off the table. With that one decision, we remove all other options. Then we finally reach the point where we can pray with a strong desire. Because we continue seeking God with persistence and faith.

Those prayers, the ones filled with hope and faith, reach God and get answered. Because they come from the deep places of our souls. The part of us that knows how to pray. The part of us that finally surrenders everything to God. The part of us that cries from human weakness to reach a loving, able God.

I don’t know where God is going to take me.

I don’t know how we are going to get there.

All I know is that I want to go with Him more than anything else.

I’m ready to be changed in beautiful ways by my Lord. I’m ready to do all of the beautiful things He wants me to do. I’m ready and willing to trust Him, like I did when He saved my soul.

I didn’t know how to be saved. I just knew that I wanted my God more than anything the world could offer me. I wanted all of the beautiful and amazing things that come from salvation.

To change our lives, we have to be willing to change. We have to be willing to take action and to move when God calls to us. And to trust Him to lead us, guide us, and help us.

The truly amazing things are beyond our capabilities and understanding. They require God. So, when God calls, let’s make the decision to follow Him. Let’s give Him the freedom to use us as He wants. Then we can live with joy and purpose, and without regrets.
