Are you pretending?
Sometimes we live a lie without realizing the cost. We pretend to be fine when we feel as if we are dying inside. Every time the nudge of misery rears up, we find a way to hide it again.
The truth is that we want to be fine. We want to live the perfect life we have conjured up in our minds. But instead of asking God for guidance and being truthful and vulnerable with Him about what we are really feeling, we pretend our brokenness and life of disarray is exactly what we want.
We skim the surface and do whatever we can to keep tolerating the mess we live in and accept.
Power comes when we stop pretending and ask God to help us. When He opens our eyes to the truth, we can see things as they are. It takes His truth to reach the deepest places of our souls and lead us out of the misery we’ve learned to tolerate.
The enemy will tell us that we’ve created such a mess that we will never be able to fix it all. However, when we get close to God, we discover that He has everything we need to fix it and change things.
For so long, I have been trying to fix things for myself. And I’ve exhausted myself trying to figure out the plan and the way the Lord wants me to go. It breaks my heart at all the wasted effort and years. I worked so hard, when all I really needed to do was stay close to God.
God doesn’t give us things and expect us to know what to do. He wants us to come to Him with it all. He wants to hear about our heartaches and fears. When we place it all before Him with honesty, God will have compassion on us and give us grace.
Isaiah 57:15 KJV
15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Sweet friends, we exhaust ourselves by trying to be the God of our own lives. We try to figure it out. We try to control the outcomes. We try to become the best version of ourselves—all on our own.
But when we stop pretending and start pleading, things change. When our heart whispers, “Lord, I need you,” He comes to us and revives us.
We don’t have to hold it all together. We need to call upon the One who is holding us. God loves us. He wants to walk through life with us. He wants to be our God. Will you let go, surrender it all, and let Him help you?
