Do you believe things can improve when the turbulent waves of stress and overwhelm continuously pull you under?
As I was getting ready this morning, I thought back to the darkest moments of my life and what helped me to climb out of the hole of depression I found myself in. During the darkest times, God gave me a little spark of hope. He showed me a better day of life where I wrote books, shared my story, and truly helped others. In my lowest moments, God came to me and encouraged me that things would get better.
Hope: to expect with confidence.
Oh, how I love this definition of hope. Once God showed me that things could get better, I had two choices: I could either believe Him and fight with everything inside of me to make it happen or ignore Him and accept defeat.
Hope felt like a balm to soothe my troubled heart, a lifeline that reached me when I was drowning in my sorrow. Hope helped me look up toward the light, believing it was possible to break through, breathe, and live normally again.
The possibility that things could improve helped me persevere through the obstacles, pain, and disappointments. I gripped the hope with both hands and endured the waves. Some days, it got better, and some days, it felt worse. But regardless of what happened each day, I went to sleep each night, desperately believing that tomorrow would be a better day tucked in the deepest place of my heart and mind.
As long as I could find the tiniest glimmer of hope, I could endure the pain, challenges, and disappointments. Instead of believing the pain was permanent, I understood it was a temporary assignment. So, I became a student and started learning how to overcome it.
I told God about my heart’s pain, doubts, and fears. I poured all of the pain out of my mind onto pages, and as I read the tear-stained pages, I felt relieved.
We can believe the naysayers, the enemy, and every negative thought that enters our minds, or we can believe that God is good and wants what is best for us. Sometimes, we must endure the pain to uncover the gift of who He created us to be.
When I believe the pain is my teacher, meant to teach me valuable and priceless things, I lean in and start learning.
Enduring hardships, however, is not easy, especially when the enemy constantly chatters in our minds about quitting. He often stands on the sidelines and encourages us to stop. He spews lies, and believing them in a vulnerable state is easy.
But I’d like to give you some truths I have learned.
God is good, and He loves us unconditionally. He has a plan to work everything out for our good. If we follow Him, He will give us everything we need to overcome every challenge.
Sweet friend, it feels as if you are carrying the weight of the world, take a step toward God and the hope your heart needs. Whisper a prayer, open your heart to God’s love, and trust that He is weaving beauty from the threads of your pain. Let hope guide you, one day at a time.
