From Overwhelmed to Restored: The Power of Sitting with Jesus

Did you sit with Jesus today?

Life can get so hectic. We can find ourselves rushing from one moment to the next. Thinking about our next move while we are completing this one.

The enemy whispers, “Don’t slow down. Keep moving. Keep striving. If you stop, you’ll fall behind.”

So, we do. We run. We overwhelm ourselves with more.

More work.

More stuff.

More goals.

More activities.

Until we feel drained and depleted. I’m speaking from experience. I remember a schedule so full that I didn’t have time to think, pray, or read my Bible. My mind became a jumbled mess of more to-dos.

I dreaded my days because I woke up exhausted each day. Even though I was doing more, I always felt farther behind. The faster I ran, the less peace I had. It was like I was working as hard as I could but making no progress at all. Each day I went at a frantic pace in the wrong direction. Only, I didn’t know that at the time.

The harder I worked and ran, the farther I went from Jesus. The farther I went from Jesus, the colder, more overwhelmed, and discouraged I became.

In my pain, sickness, and overwhelm, I learned to sit with Jesus. When I finally slowed down long enough to sit with Jesus, I realized I hadn’t just been busy—I had drifted. While I was working so hard on a plan, it turned out to be the wrong one. I caused myself so much pain and sickness because I didn’t take time to sit with my Lord.

Now, I start my day with the Lord. I read His word, journal, and ask for guidance. Those moments with my Lord have become my favorite part of the day. When my heart seeks the Lord, I find Him in the moments of my day. He directs me. Gives me good thoughts and walks with me.

The truth is, none of us knows exactly what tomorrow holds. But Jesus does. He knows the way before we take the first step.

When we stay close to Him and make time for Him, He will guide our steps one day, one decision, and one moment at a time.

Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
