Faith Over Defeat: Finding Victory When Life Feels Lost

Can you imagine how hopeless the crucifixion of Jesus looked?
The cross looked like defeat. Jesus was beaten, mocked, stripped, crucified, and buried, and from the perspective of those watching, it looked like the enemy had won. In the moment, they were looking directly at Jesus, yet they couldn’t see what God was doing. They didn’t see His plan.
They thought Jesus’ death was the end. But from God’s perspective, it was victory. The death of Jesus brought us eternal life. It was the ultimate defeat of Satan.
What appeared to be Satan’s victory became the very means through which Christ triumphed over sin and death. And when Jesus rose from the grave, death did not get the final word. Friday looked dark and hopeless on the cross. Sunday was a time of victory and hope because of the resurrection.
Friday looked like defeat.
Saturday looked silent.
Sunday revealed what God had been doing all along.
The plan of God didn’t begin working Sunday morning. God was working even when everything looked hopeless.
Sometimes we’re judging God’s faithfulness from the middle of a story He hasn’t finished revealing yet.
Just because we don’t see God’s plan doesn’t mean it’s not alive and fully in motion.
Just because it looks like the enemy has defeated us doesn’t mean that he has.
Just because our circumstances look dark now doesn’t mean God can’t illuminate us with His light.
John 16:33 KJV
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
The enemy wants us to live in the dark corners of our minds, where doubt and fear seem so strong. He wants us to think that God can’t help us, but, more importantly, that He won’t help us. He tries to beat us down, mock our faith in God, and get us to believe the fear.
But God has everything we need. He is the way.
Right now, He sees us, sweet friend. He sees our circumstances and understands our fears. God knows exactly what we are going through. And even how to turn our heartaches into blessings.
He loves us; therefore, we can trust Him.
Jesus trusted God with His life and death. Showing us we can trust Him, too. God cares about the details of our lives, and nothing is too big or small for Him. Therefore, we get to decide if we want to live from defeat or victory.
1 Corinthians 15:57 KJV
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Defeat says, “This is the end.”
Faith says, “God is still working.”
Defeat says, “There is no way.”
Faith says, “Jesus is the way.”
Defeat says, “The enemy has won.”
Faith looks at an empty tomb and remembers: Jesus has already won.
Sweet friend, maybe you’re standing in your Friday right now. Maybe everything you see looks dark, painful, and hopeless.
But don’t judge the whole story by Friday when God knows what Sunday holds.
Which one will you believe today?
