Enjoy the gift of today

It’s so easy to get caught up in the pressures of life. The pace is quick, and the demand can be overwhelming at times. We feel that we need to try to be everything to everyone. In trying to do so, we often become overwhelmed and stressed. In this state, we merely survive each day but fail to enjoy them.

Psalm 118:24 (KJV)
24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Sometimes we must put our worries and fears aside and enjoy our moment. I have lost precious time by dwelling on the past and worrying about the future. Neither one is beneficial to me. We can’t change what has already happened to us, and we can’t control the future. The only thing we can control is how we spend the moment the Lord has given us.

We have to decide to be happy despite our circumstances. I used to put restrictions on my happiness. I would be happy if only God would remove my pain and heal me from this illness. However, I found something else to steal my joy when it happened.

We do this by living in the present moment. I love to sit outside and listen to the sounds of nature. The beauty God creates every day in the sky is breathtaking. He even makes the storms beautiful. For a long time, I didn’t even notice the unique beauty of each day because my problems consumed me. I mostly walked around with my head down, feeling sorry for myself. Now I take time each day to breathe and enjoy the blessing of right now.

I love sitting on the porch, reading His word, and meditating on the scriptures. I want to replace my worries and fears with God’s promises. The more I learn about my Lord, the more I have to be grateful for. He has made us so many amazing promises. Reading them brings sweet peace to my soul. In a world of uncertainty and heartache, I love knowing God is my refuge.

This day is His gift to me. My gratitude for it is my gift to Him. So today, I will spend time with my family and thank God for it all in the depths of my heart. I AM SO VERY BLESSED.
