Embracing Change and Overcoming Lies

We are supposed to change.

None of us are born with all the strength, wisdom, and knowledge we need. It takes us a lifetime to become who God created us to be. While growth is a natural part of life, some dislike it.

Some people don’t want to grow themselves, so they make others feel guilty for growing and changing.

When my books first came out, I was in a real season of growth. God pushed me to change, and others pulled me to stay the same. I felt shame every time someone told me I had changed. In my weakness, the enemy would rush in and tell me I wasn’t supposed to change. He would make me feel guilty for the blessings God had given me.

Writing became a struggle for me, partly because I didn’t want to go to the next level and lose those I loved. That was a lie the enemy told me. He told me that I would change and people would stop loving me.

While I wish I could tell you that was a total and complete lie, the truth is that it happened. Sometimes, the enemy mixes a little truth with lies to confuse us.

Not everyone will love every version of us. Some people are seasonal. They come into our lives for a reason, and then they leave. It really has nothing to do with us.

We can’t live for other people or stay in the trenches because watching us suffer makes others feel better. Those who truly and genuinely love us will love every version of us. They will cheer us on when we are doing great and when we are struggling.

Speaking of struggling, I have struggled to write for a while. I listened to the naysayers and my own negative thoughts about my writing. I allowed the enemy to get in my head. He told me I needed to learn how to write before I could write another book.

With his lies came so much confusion. The enemy is the master of confusion. He throws a bunch of lies at us at once, hoping one or two will stick. Here’s something I’ve learned about the enemy.

He’s not consistent. He will tell us a bunch of different things and give us another one if we don’t believe this lie.

However, God is very consistent. He doesn’t change. If He tells us something, it is true.

When two voices speak to us, we must decide which one to believe and who to follow. We cannot follow the enemy and get blessings from God. The best thing for us to do is dismiss the enemy’s lies and seek the truth of the Lord.

If we follow the enemy, we will lose our power with God.

The enemy wants to steal our gifts and silence us. But if we seek the Lord, He will help us through the confusion. The enemy does not fool God. Therefore, if we follow the Lord, he won’t be able to fool us either. In the depths of our souls, we know what is right. We know what the Lord has told us. If we hold onto His words, they will slay the enemy.
