Don’t Wait for Tomorrow: Give Your Life Everything Today

Life is so short. Lately, my days seem to fly by—it’s as if time is fast-forwarding, and I can’t seem to keep up.

Yesterday, I passed by a place where an older man used to sit on his porch. He was there most mornings when I drove to work. Then, one day, he wasn’t there anymore. Not long after I stopped seeing him, someone tore his house down.

What used to be his home is now empty, and the land holds no remembrance of the home and life that used to be there. Every time I glance at it, I am reminded of how life is like a vapor. It’s here one minute and gone the next.

Someday, we will have a tombstone with our name, the date of our birth, a dash, and then the date of our death. The dash in between represents our lives, and it’s truly what we do in that time that matters.

How often do we give our power to others? We allow others to control us because we fear their judgments and our need to please.

How often do we live small lives because we fear what others will think of us?

We only get one chance to live. Everyone only gets one dash. Of all the people who died yesterday, I wonder how many expected it.

Sometimes, we get so caught up in the future or weighed down by the past that we forget to live today. Today matters. And the only time we get to live this day.

Therefore, I want to enjoy it, live it, and give everything I have to give each day. I don’t want to wait for tomorrow to start. I don’t want to put that dream off for another year.

Today, I want to focus on the things that matter most to me, stop sabotaging myself, and learn how to really live for my Lord. I want to see what it feels like to fully live and give my life everything I have to give each day.

Psalm 118:24 KJV

24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
