Do you believe everything you hear?

I used to be so naive. I believed what I heard and didn’t really question it. Even if I felt uneasy that something was wrong, IF I trusted the person who told me, I shrugged off the warning and believed it anyway.

I needed to understand that people don’t always follow the Lord. The enemy sneaks his lies in as often as he can. If we dismiss God’s guidance, we will believe the enemy’s lies and be hurt by them.

The enemy will trick others into using God’s word to manipulate and control us. They might tell us, God wants me to tell you this, but we won’t feel God in any of it. Sometimes, these things confuse us because they go against something else God told us.

Through the pain and confusion of it all, I have learned to question things that confuse or alarm me. I have learned to read the Bible for myself and to pray for understanding. Now, if I hear something that doesn’t sound or feel right, I take it to God. I don’t just accept it as the truth.

Sweet friends, there are many spirits, but not all are from God. The spirit of God bears witness to the truth. Therefore, I pay attention to how I feel when I hear things. Does it instruct me, help me, or confuse me?

1 John 4:1 KJV

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Matthew 24:24 KJV

24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Sometimes, the word of God exposes my sins and hurts my feelings, BUT I know in the depths of my soul it’s the truth. So I can lean into it and allow it to help me grow and prosper for my Lord. But if it confuses me or doesn’t feel right, I present it before the Lord and ask Him to help me understand.

The enemy cannot deceive us if we follow the Lord and His guidance. God doesn’t change. Therefore, if things seem completely different from what they used to be, we need to pay attention and ask God to help us understand. The awareness that something is wrong is a beautiful invitation to spend time with God.
