Choosing Whose Voice to Hear in the Darkness

In the struggle, the enemy can take our minds to some really dark places. He can take our discomfort and turn it into unbearable pain. What makes it feel unbearable is the hopelessness he weaves throughout our stories.

It’s always too hard, or we’re too late. The desire of our hearts is always beyond us.

Satan has a voice of discouragement and defeat. It’s fear, disappointment, and hopelessness all wrapped into one. And if we listen to it long enough, we will start to believe it. The opposite is also true. If we seek the Lord, we will find Him.

Romans 10:17 KJV

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Sweet friends, we don’t have to sit with the enemy and listen to his lies. We can sit at the feet of Jesus.

When we sit with Jesus, amid the fear and pain, He will comfort us and shine a light onto our dark thoughts. While we can’t help the thoughts that come into our minds, we can decide which ones we will believe.

Bad things happen to us sometimes. But it’s what we do with what happens to us that matters. When the swirl of darkness starts pulling us under, we can let it happen or fight it. We fight it by crying out to God.

I forget that I’m not strong enough to face the enemy on my own. I need my Lord. My Lord knows how to separate the lies from the truth. He knows how to put things into perspective for me.

I am human with feelings that guide me. When the emotion takes over, it’s hard for me to see anything other than my big emotions. So when it all feels overwhelming, the best place I can go is to the Lord in prayer. When I share my thoughts and feelings with Him, He will faithfully give me what I need for that moment. Sometimes He changes my circumstances, and sometimes He changes me, but He is always enough.

Choosing to hear God, amid the chaos and pain, is the greatest thing we can do. God is all-wise, all-powerful, and He loves us. His voice is the One I want guiding me.
