Can You Trust God With Their Decisions?

What makes you think your way is the best?

Sometimes, I have to pause amid my desire for control and ask myself this question. If I slow down when the urge to control others, outcomes, or change someone else emerges, I can pray for guidance and ask God what is best. 

How many times do we say in conversation or think in our minds: I would do this if I were you?

When that thought enters my mind, I have started examining it. Am I genuinely trying to help, or is my desire for control showing up again? There is a difference between offering wisdom and trying to control someone’s decision.

We can say:

“Here’s something you might consider…”

without saying:

“This is what you need to do.”

Sometimes trusting God means trusting Him with other people’s decisions, too.

Only God sees the entire picture. Other people may offer us wisdom, but God alone knows every detail. God knows the before, during, and after. He knows the consequences of the actions. Therefore, His guidance is the one we should all seek. 

Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

⁵ Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

⁶ In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

God will always lead us the right way. His advice will always be the best. Others might evoke fear in us. They might cause us to hesitate when God is asking us to move forward. 

When I truly see the magnitude of an opinion and the weight of influence over another, I am hesitant to blurt out my quick judgment or advice. Before I tell someone what I think they should do, perhaps I should ask God whether He wants me to say anything at all.

Sometimes love gives counsel.

Sometimes love asks questions.

Sometimes love listens.

Sometimes love prays and says nothing.

The truth is that I don’t know what to do half the time in my own life. I don’t have all the answers. The more I think I know, the more I realize I don’t know at all. Therefore, I want to trust in the Lord with all my heart. I want to put the full weight of it all on God. And acknowledge Him in every decision. 

Then, when others ask me what to do, I can share with them how I reach my decisions. And encourage them to trust the Lord and acknowledge Him as well. 

When you need advice, understanding, and to know which way to go, seek the Lord. Find a place to talk to Him and give yourself the stillness to hear Him. God doesn’t just know the way, sweet friend. He is the way.
