Are You Living in the Worst-Case Scenario?

Do you catastrophize your life?

If there is a worst-case scenario to be imagined, I will think about it in great detail. Sometimes I think of these horrid stories until I feel the stress and anxiousness they cause. I have struggled with self-inflicted stress and pain because I believed lies.

“I have lived a long life and had many troubles, most of which never happened”
― Mark Twain

The enemy loves to take us to a prison in our minds. He shows us bad things. And tries to control us with fear. However, the doorway to love and freedom is always open.

We could choose to imagine the best-case scenario and fall in love with our lives. We could wake up each morning with the anticipation that something beautiful is about to happen. We could train our minds to seek the good and to speak with praise of our Lord.

Sometimes amid the fear, we forget that God gave us the power of choice.

While we don’t get to decide what happens to us, we get to decide what things mean and how we react to them. We may not get to choose all of our thoughts, but we can decide which ones we will believe and nurture.

I can believe it is impossible.

or

Luke 18:27 KJV

27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

Believing it is impossible limits me. Stops me. Takes away my hope. And prevents me from trying. But if I believe it is possible through God, I know there are no limits with Him. He has the plan. He will walk with me. And He is my ultimate hope.

When we feel ourselves being overwhelmed by our thoughts, we need to take them to the Lord. God’s light helps us separate what is true from what fear is magnifying. He reminds us that we don’t have to live as though the worst-case scenario has already happened. We don’t have to live in the shadows afraid. We can live in the light and love.

It takes effort.

Most of us have been conditioned to believe the bad things. But we can choose to dismiss those thoughts. We can pray for guidance and truth. We can take our thoughts to God and ask Him to help us sort them and to show us the truth.

Fear tries to make us live tomorrow’s troubles today. But God gives us grace for today and promises to be with us tomorrow when it arrives.

We can have beautiful, loving visions of Godly things. We just have to invite God into the process.

The Creator of the world can help shape our lives. He can transform our thinking, strengthen our faith, and help us become the person He created us to be.
