Are you borrowing trouble?

I have to ask myself continuously that question nowadays. My mind likes to make up stories. And when things feel fearful, my mind tends toward dark places. In the darkness, there is pain, fear, and hopelessness. If I get stuck in the stories of my mind, then I spiral downward. I can create a tragic story if I allow my mind to continue thinking and believing the worst is about to happen.

While the enemy can’t defeat us, he can wear us down. The longer we sit and talk to him about the impending doom we might be feeling, the worse we will feel. Anytime I can take my negative thoughts and examine them for the truth, I can help myself to overcome the lies of the enemy, especially if I can find a scripture that applies to a particular thought.

When I am fearful, I love this scripture:
Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

When I feel weak, I love this scripture:
Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

When I feel like a victim of my circumstances, I love this scripture:
Romans 8:28 (KJV)
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

When I am fearful that I won’t have enough of the things I need, I love this scripture:
1 Kings 17:13 (KJV)
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

When I feel alone during my trials, I love this scripture:
Isaiah 43:2 (KJV)
2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
When I feel unloved and unworthy, I love these scriptures:

Matthew 10:30-31 (KJV)
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Sweet friends, God is with us. Our precious Lord knows our enemy and his ways. God understands the groaning of our hearts and precisely what we need. Regardless of the situation, the enemy can’t defeat God.

Imagine that we are at war (because we are). Would you go to the enemy and talk things over? Or would you go to your Leader, the One who has given you promises of protection? God knows exactly what we need to do each day. Instead of worrying about things or discussing them with the enemy, we must go to the Lord. If we take everything to Him in prayer, believing that He will help us, then He will help us with all things.
