Have you ever wondered what Jesus thought and felt on the cross?

Yesterday, as I drove home from work, I considered it. Jesus knew His pain and discomfort would mean everything to us. His death brought us eternal life.

When I taught Sunday School, the kids would often ask me why God allowed the people to kill Jesus. Why did Jesus have to die? For some, it seemed cruel. And in our minds it does.

But when we think of the love it took to do it without fighting or resistance, I feel so loved. God gave His Son to save us. Jesus paid the sins I couldn’t pay. He made the way I couldn’t make. He willingly gave His life for mine. He saw every one of my sins, and He loved me enough to stay on the cross. Only love could do that. Jesus didn’t just tell us that He loved us; He showed us.

John 3:16 KJV

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Without Him, I wouldn’t have any hope of Heaven. With Him, I have a beautiful hope of an everlasting life with God forever in Heaven.

He paid the ultimate price for us.  And the gift is not just limited to eternal salvation. It is extended to our every life as well. When we get saved, Jesus becomes our comforter, helper, and guide. He goes through life with us. We are never alone.

Sometimes, we just need a moment to sit in the truth. The world bombards us with fears and worries. But there is such a peace that settles deep in my soul when I know I’m not alone. Jesus is there to help me through every hardship, heartbreak, and attack.

We might face painful circumstances, but we will never go through them on our own. Jesus walked through the cross alone so that we would never have to walk through life without Him. Nothing or no one can separate us from His love.

Today, let’s hold onto that truth. Let the weight of what Jesus did settle into our minds.

Romans 8:37-39 KJV

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
