Your Gift Was Never About Your Ability

The enemy wants to keep us believing that we are small, insignificant, and incapable of doing God’s work or anything meaningful in this life. He wants us to compare ourselves to others. And if we entertain him and listen while he compares us to someone else, we will always come up short.
Satan will never give us a fair assessment. Even when he points out the places we do well, it is never to honor God—only to exalt us or destroy us.
As I was praying this morning before my writing time, I almost asked God to help me write today to the best of my ability. Then I paused.
Why would I want to ask God to help me write to the best of my ability when I could ask Him to help me write according to His will?
That single pause changed everything.
One relies on my strength, wisdom, and knowledge, and all of those have limitations. The other is limitless.
So often, we live the way we see others live. We pick up their language, their phrasing, and even their mindset without realizing that we are placing limits on ourselves by what we believe. We start to measure ourselves by human standards instead of spiritual truth.
God is the only One who can break strongholds and teach us how to live in a holy, beautiful way for Him. He created each of us for a purpose, and according to Scripture, when we are saved, we are given a special gift by the Spirit.
The only way we can truly use that gift is according to God’s will through His Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:6-7 KJV
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
Our gifts are not just for us. They are entrusted to us for obedience, not evaluation.
When we let God work through us, we invite the Spirit of God to do the work. If I write anything that helps another soul, it is not because of my ability, it is because God purposed it. The Spirit creates, and the same Spirit touches the hearts of those who receive it.
We cannot do soul-touching work without Him.
God knows exactly what each soul needs. We may think we understand and step in to help, and our efforts might help a little, but true soul work requires the Spirit.
Staying out of the way is the hardest part.
The enemy attacks my writing every chance he gets. He fills my mind with doubt. Sometimes he tells me I need to stop writing and “learn how” before I share anything else. Other times, he pressures me to rush through my writing time.
Anything to keep me from connecting with God.
Because it is in that connection where everything comes together—where something hopeful, helpful, and holy emerges.
If you are struggling with your gift, sweet friend, I encourage you to read 1 Corinthians 12. God explains it clearly. This is not about worthiness. The flesh has no place in the gifts of God. God gives what He chooses to give.
When we use our gifts according to His will, they accomplish exactly what they are meant to accomplish.
We get to create with God.
My kind and gracious Heavenly Father, thank you for my gift. Thank you for choosing me to write with you. Thank you for teaching me about my gift and for showing me that my soul is worthy to work with you. I am part of the body. Thank you for saving me and for your beautiful Spirit. I want to use my gifts to honor and glorify you, Lord. Please help me write according to your will.
