When Life Gets Harder Instead of Easier

Do you ever wonder when life is going to get easier?

I remember going to my dad one day and asking him this very question. I worked hard to do everything right, but my life wasn’t getting any easier. In fact, it felt as if it got more challenging every day.

My dad said, “It doesn’t get easier, but you will get stronger.”

That knowledge was hard to swallow because I thought I would reach a specific point, check off enough boxes, and then it would be smooth sailing. However, with each new level, the enemy adjusts his strategy, and his attacks become slightly more challenging.

God knows how to defeat the enemy. But He doesn’t just step in and do it for us because He wants us to get stronger. Therefore, He guides us through the battle. The part I had to understand was that I still have to fight—every single day.

When it gets hard, we don’t need to go to bed and pray that it will get easier. I’ve done this so many times. Instead, we need to prepare for war. We need to put on God’s whole armor and pray for the strength to overcome the enemy.

Ephesians 6:11-18 (KJV)
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

When I sit in the presence of the Lord and ask Him to prepare me for the battle I am facing, He will. God knows what we need. He knows why I am in the trial and what it will accomplish.

The enemy wants us to focus on the bad. God, however, we will bring good out of the bad. Nothing is too hard for the Lord. We have to trust Him to see us through it all.

God will give us the strength we need to fight our battles. The courage to stand against the enemy. And the wisdom to know what to do.

Today, if you are struggling, don’t give in to the enemy. Stand with God, and He will fight for you. We have already achieved victory through Christ.
