The Power of “I Am”

Do you speak lies over your life or the truth?

Of all the people who have been mean to me in my life, I have been the meanest to myself. I’ve stood in front of the mirror and torn myself apart over my scars.

We need to be careful about the labels that we place on ourselves. Anything that we place behind the words “I am” becomes powerful. The enemy loves to put us down and have us repeat these words to ourselves.

How many times do we say these things to ourselves?

I am not good enough.
I am fat.
I am stupid.
I am weak.
I am a bad person.
I am tired.
I am hurting.
I am depressed.

So often we speak lies over ourselves. We hear the voice of our enemy say these things to us, and then we repeat them over and over, and somehow make them our truth because the lies are easier to believe.

Instead of using these phrases to put ourselves down, we need to create new ones to help lift us. Here are a few examples to remind us of whose child we are.

The enemy wants to chain us with lies, but God calls us to speak His truth over our lives.

I am a child of the King.
I am thankful for my health.
I am blessed with wisdom and knowledge from my Lord.
I am strong through my Lord.
I am saved by God’s grace.
I am revived by God’s spirit.
I am healed by God.
I am not alone.
I am deeply loved by God.

In each situation, we have the power and ability to choose a new thought. When we center our thoughts on God and how well He cares for us, then we will feel surrounded by His love. The enemy can’t take away God’s love from us, but he can cause us to turn away from it.

Through all situations, we need to remember that God loves us, just as we are. We don’t have to do anything to earn His love. All we have to do is open our hearts and allow Him to come inside.

Romans 8:38-39 (KJV)
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Tomorrow, when you stand in front of the mirror, try replacing just one lie with one of God’s truths.
