Letting Go of What Was, Embracing What Is

Do you have something in your life that is currently challenging? Are you resisting the transition?

Things change in our lives. Regardless of how we would love to keep things just as they are right now, the truth is that some things are changing as we speak. We can spend all our time wishing things were different and living in the past, or we can surrender to the reality of the present moment.

When I had my surgery to get a thumb, it completely changed my left hand’s function. At first, it was so incredibly frustrating for me. My mind continued to try to do things as I once did them, and when it didn’t work, it upset me.

After several weeks of fighting against it, I realized that I had to let go of what was and accept what is. As long as I held onto the ways and pain of the past, I couldn’t fully open myself up to the new blessings God had for me.

Sometimes we fight God’s will for us and His ways. We would rather hold onto the familiar pain than to change. The process of growing and evolving is challenging. But so is staying the same.

Therefore, I need to remember that when the pain of growing feels extremely hard, God knows what is best for me.

He knew the thumb would help me. It eliminated so much of my pain every day. But to get to the blessing, I had to go through months of extreme pain. I had to surrender my vision and expectations for God’s will.

All I wanted was a thumb, and God gave me so much more.

The use of my left hand helped my body to heal and answered my prayer. At one point, I thought that I would live in pain every day of my life, but God had a different plan. Even though God’s plan was wrapped in pain and challenges, it was good. And exactly what I needed.

Will you trust Him with this new season of your life? Will you draw close, even when you want to pull away, and let God help you through it all?

Romans 8:2 KJV

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
