Is God Your First Call—or Your Last Resort?

Is God your first call?

As much as it saddens me to admit, God has not always been my first call. I talked about my problems, worried about them, asked other people to pray for my situation, and still never asked God to help me. While it is great to have other people pray for us, we have to pray for ourselves as well.

God wants to be our first call. He wants us to bring it all to Him. When we take a problem to the Lord, He will comfort us. But if we hold it all inside and lie awake during the night worrying about it, we reject His comfort. I’ve brought so many hardships on myself by not taking it all to the Lord in prayer.

No one can comfort us like the Lord. When He speaks His peace to our souls, then the enemy has to flee from us. Prayer is such a beautiful gift. At any time, we can talk to the Creator of the world and the great physician. It was all created by God; therefore, He knows how to help us with it all. Nothing is too big for our God to handle.

Before I tell a friend, I whisper a prayer.

When I pray about something bothering me, as soon as it occurs, and keep praying until I get a hold of the Lord, I can praise the Lord through the storms. Prayer gives us hope. As long as we have hope, we can endure the hardships—because God Himself is our hope.

Romans 12:12 (KJV)
12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
