How God Is Healing Me While I’m Still Hurting

Sometimes it’s so incredibly hard to live with the pain we don’t talk about. We all have layers of pain that we push down inside of us. Keeping it tucked safely in the corners of our hearts doesn’t diminish it. But it does cause us to bleed longer than we were ever meant to.

We bleed when we choose to hide instead of heal.

The enemy tries to convince us that our wounds are special to us and that no one else has ever experienced the same type of pain. But he is a liar. We are all flesh and blood, and we bleed the same way. Some of us are just better at hiding our wounds.

In the silence, amid my pain, God asked me a deep and profound question: Are you going to bleed to death or will you let Me help you?

Yes, my pain is real, and I have many reasons to hurt. I can justify all of my reasons and choose to hold onto my pain, or I can allow Him to take it and help me to heal from all my wounds.

Romans 12:19 KJV

19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Forgiveness alone isn’t enough. We also have to lay the experience to rest and stop giving it authority over our lives. God will repay those who have hurt us. He will get the vengeance that belongs to Him.

Sometimes what we feel like is the deepest kind of hurt may be the next step in God’s plan. Let’s look at Joseph for a moment in the Bible. His brothers wanted to kill him. Joseph had the Lord’s favor and special gifts, and his brothers hated him for it.

Oftentimes, those who do not follow the Lord—or who do not understand His favor—resent those who walk closely with Him.

While they had plans to kill Joseph, God intervened. He had great plans for Joseph. Regardless of what happened to Joseph, God placed His favor upon him. God used Joseph to help his brothers from famine later in the story. They would have starved to death, but God used Joseph to help them.

Genesis 39:21 KJV

21 But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

Sweet friends, we can find that same time of favor in the depths of our sorrow and hardships. Our God can give us great favor, wherever we find ourselves.

The enemy may attack our gifts. He may try to destroy us and our ability to use our gifts, but the Lord can help us use them even more powerfully.

The enemy wants to keep us bound by shame over what happened to us. He wants us to become the victim of our stories. But through God we can overcome it all. God can turn the very things meant for harm into blessings and prosperity.

I’m not through my hardship. I’m still in it, but every day I’m healing a little more. I’m choosing forgiveness over vengeance, and trusting God to turn every ounce of my pain into a beautiful story of love and redemption.

I may not know all the details, but I do know one thing: I have victory in Jesus. And if He can redeem my story, He can redeem yours, too.
