Why Do We Tear Others Down?

Life is hard enough without any extra pressure. Honestly, I can’t imagine my younger self on social media. I was insecure, scarred inside as well as out, self-conscious, shy, and I worried so much about what other people thought about me. Now anytime that I post on a social media platform, I try to be mindful of who is on the other side of the screen. We might go on a rant and really tear someone apart for their actions, and it might go beyond the screen and seep into their heart.

We have no idea what other people go through. It’s so easy to set in our comfortable lives and judge them for how they handle their hardships. The truth is that we don’t know what we will do tomorrow. We could be in their same situation tomorrow or in a few years. No one is any better than anyone else. We are all beautifully flawed and God loves us all the same.

Instead of tearing others apart, what if we prayed for them? What if we reached out to them with love and concern?

Sometimes we just need to take ourselves back in time to when we had similar thoughts, feelings, and hardships. Harsh words are not helpful. It only reaffirms what the negative voice in their mind is already telling them. Kind words and compassion, however, could give them a new perspective.

When I did my school visit recently one of the teachers told the students about my faith on my journey to being published. She had worked with me previously and listened to me talk about my dreams. She also heard all the naysayers talk about me and put me down constantly. Today, I am so grateful that I didn’t allow the enemy to steal my dreams.

Regardless of where you are on your journey, there will always be naysayers. Some people don’t want others to succeed. Those people believe if they can tear us down that it will make them look better. Don’t listen to them. Keep doing what you want to do and pursuing your dream—even if no one believes in it but you. I would rather live my life with negative comments than with regret.

I believe in YOU! You are amazing. I believe that you can do great things. I believe that if you have a gift inside of you to help others and do something amazing with your life. Believe that, my sweet friend!

Love and blessings,

Candida
