When Rock Bottom Becomes the Foundation

Are you struggling, wondering what you need to do?
I’ve been there so many times, sweet friend. I’ve struggled physically until I couldn’t work or take care of daily tasks. I’ve struggled emotionally until all I could do was cry and pray. I’ve struggled mentally, living for years in a prison of shame and fear. I’ve struggled financially and suffered because of it. I’ve struggled spiritually and wondered if God even loved me.
I’ve hit rock bottom in every area of my life. But hitting the bottom helped me to look up—and discover that God is the rock I want to build my life upon.
Psalm 18:2 (KJV)
The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
I know it may not feel like it right now, but wrapped inside the struggle is a beautiful opportunity. When we find ourselves at the bottom, we can begin to rebuild our lives on a stronger foundation. Rock bottom forces us to do something.
As long as everything in my life was comfortable, I didn’t do anything to change it. But when I entered a season of constant pain, it forced me to reevaluate everything.
Pain has a way of exposing the lies — the ones we believe and the ones we tell ourselves to survive.
When pain enters our lives, we can no longer pretend everything is fine while we’re drowning in sorrow. That’s why there’s a hidden gift inside hardship — it shakes us awake and helps us see reality through God’s eyes.
When God opens our eyes, we can either ignore Him and keep struggling, or we can surrender and let Him transform our lives.
I’m so thankful I chose to let God help me.
Change is hard — but not as hard as staying the same without any hope of things getting better.
Sweet friend, if you are in a season of change, lean in. Let God help you. Perhaps He has something greater for you than you can even imagine.
