When People Meet You, Do They Meet Jesus?

I read something once that put it all in perspective. It said, “People who meet you should meet Jesus.”

Sometimes, however, I get so caught up in life and what I want that I forget what I am truly here for. It’s not about being successful or having everything I want.  My true purpose is to be a witness to God.

Isaiah 43:12 KJV

12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God.

Once we are saved, God leaves us here to help others find Him. Our testimonies of God’s goodness reach other people. When we show people, through our lives, the true goodness of God, we can reach them. We don’t always have to mention His name. We can show others our Lord by allowing His love to pour out of us.

We show others Jesus with a genuine smile and acts of love and kindness. So often, it’s in what we do rather than what we say.

Our actions must align with our words. We can’t say we love others and then mistreat them.

In recent years, I have felt a shift in this. People speak words of love to our faces, yet we feel like something is off. They radiate something different. We can feel it. This causes confusion about who God is.

The condition of our hearts and our alignment with God show. Whatever is inside of us will spill out. Therefore, I want to make sure it is love, kindness, and compassion.

God told a woman to come to me, and I would help her. The whole experience rattled me. Afterward, I was so relieved that I welcomed her with open arms and asked the Lord how to help her. But I also contemplated the opposite. What if I had brushed her off, or if I had been hateful? We truly never know when God will send someone to us. Therefore, I want to treat everyone as if God had sent them to me.

And if I’m having a bad day or getting rattled, I pray God protects me and others. I would never want someone to leave an interaction with me and not like God because of me.

It’s a constant battle between our inner and outer selves. Therefore, we need to check in with ourselves honestly and see how we feel. If we feel more irritated with people than we do love, we need to ask God for help. We need more time with the Lord if everything is bothering us. Anything standing in our way of showing others the Lord needs to be taken care of quickly.

We all get down and struggle occasionally. But we don’t have to stay there. God has grace for our every need. He can help us with our struggles. And restore the joy our souls crave.

So I keep this question in the forefront of my mind: How do you make people feel?
