This Shouldn’t Be Happening… or Should It?

“This shouldn’t be happening to me.”
Have you ever believed that lie?

The enemy loves it when we question God as if He is wrong for allowing our pain. He wants to sow mistrust toward God, and toward ourselves. If the enemy can get us to doubt the Lord, he will slip his way in between us.

Before we realize it, those thoughts turn into hopelessness. If the enemy can steal our focus for even a moment, he can paint the most devastating reality. With every moment we dwell on doom and gloom, we grow weaker.

Then the limitations flood over us until we feel as if we might drown in sorrow and pain. He attacks us spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. The enemy has no bounds, so we must prepare for battle.

The battle starts in our minds. If we can defeat it there, we can defeat it in our lives.

In these moments, it is vital to invite God into the battle. Invite Him through prayer. Invite Him by reading His Word. When the enemy speaks lies, silence him with praise—sing, pray, or recite Scripture.

When trials come, we can turn away from God or toward Him.

During the darkest times of my life, I developed a deep and beautiful relationship with my Lord. I sat with Him in my tears and fears. In my brokenness, God strengthened me. He used every ounce of my struggle for good.

Therefore, I praise my Lord for everything I have been through. It qualifies me to help others and become who He created me to be. I know my God loves me. I trust Him to give me what I need—when I need it—even when that includes hardship.

Our pain is a gift. It refines us in the fire so we can shine brighter and lead others to Him.

Romans 8:28 (KJV)
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
