The Battle Between Doubt and Belief

The enemy wants to bring us down. He wants to bring us to a point where we struggle to have faith in God. When we feel hopeless, we feel helpless, and doubt roars in our minds.
Faith has the beautiful ability to silence doubt. When I can lift my eyes to Jesus, and trust that He’s got me, regardless of the situation, then my faith can become bigger than my fear.
But if I waver and stand on the fence in indecision, it becomes harder to believe in the power and ability of God.
The longer I hesitate, the more power I give the enemy. All he needs is a slight hesitation to attack. It’s somewhat like entering a battle unsure and pausing on the battlefield. The pause can be deadly.
However, when I get my mind centered on God and believe wholeheartedly that Hw will take care of it all for me, I can walk in faith regardless of the storms brewing in my life. I can praise God amid the storms because I believe He is more powerful than anything else.
Faith doesn’t always make sense to my logical brain. My brain wants facts and proof. Faith doesn’t offer either of those things.
Hebrews 11:1 KJV
11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
The good news is that God gives us thoughts of hope and reassurance. He knows we are weak, so He provides us with crumbs of hope sprinkled throughout our day. God encourages to believe, but He gives us the choice if we want to believe Him or not.
My thumb story is one of the most beautiful examples of faith I have ever experienced. There was absolutely no scientific evidence that my surgery would work. The opposite was more true. There was a lot of evidence that showed it won’t work.
But in the choice of it all, God gave me beautiful thoughts of hope and reassurance and paired it with His spirit. That combination gave me the faith I needed to have the surgery. God walked with me every step of the way.
When pain caused the doubt to creep in, God encouraged me. When my thumb wouldn’t move after surgery, God helped me. When I struggled afterwards to learn how to use my hand, and the frustration caused me to question it all, God gave me what I needed in each moment—every time I was allowed to believe in His ability and power or reject it.
We don’t really learn about faith in the good times when everything is fine. Untested faith is not really faith at all. But when we reach the point where faith is required to move forward, we understand it more. The more we walk in faith with the Lord, the stronger our faith becomes.
Starting, it is usually small things, and as we grow spiritually, they become bigger. But every time we exercise our faith, it sets up a stone of remembrance for us. So, the next time our faith is required, God can remind us of previous battles and how He helped and delivered us.
I know how hard it can be, sweet friends, to believe in things we can’t see or have never experienced before. But our God is a God of possibilities. He makes our impossible things possible.Â
