Shining the Light Instead of Casting Stones

The enemy wants us to live small lives. He wants us to shrink down so low that others can’t see the light burning inside of us. He tries to get us to say hurtful things and judge openly and outspokenly.
Sometimes we don’t see the harm in sharing our beliefs about things that can be sensitive and hurtful to others. We try to justify the judgments by declaring them the truth. But every time we sling judgments, we create space between us.
People don’t need us to tell them they are wrong and being sinful. God called us to love them and shine a light of His goodness out to them. We do that by loving them the way Jesus loves us.
Love prays silent prayers, and loves loudly. It makes a liar out of the enemy. And builds bridges that close the gap.
Love can move mountains. It can change lives. And that’s why the enemy wants us to judge, instead of love.
Judgments say: You shouldn’t sin. You should be ashamed.
Love says: We all sin. Jesus’ blood covers each one.
When I realized it’s not my place to judge, it changed everything for me. What other people do is none of my business. If I’m concerned about them, I can take it to the Lord in prayer. But what I don’t want to do is cast stones. I don’t want to harm others by hurling judgments based on my experiences.
God has grace for every need. We don’t live under the law anymore. We are all blessed to live under the grace plan of salvation.
So I want to be careful with my words. I don’t want to give the enemy any leverage to hurt others. I don’t want to say something that can be twisted into something else.
It’s a constant and deliberate practice. I’m sure that’s why the Bible tells us to watch and pray. The enemy waits in the shadows, just looking for something he can use to hurt us and others. If we follow Jesus’ example, we won’t cast stones. We will forgive what needs to be forgiven and love unconditionally.
