Meeting with God Changed Everything: How I Learned to Hear His Voice for Myself

God wants to talk to you, to communicate with you every day. Do you make time for Him and talk to Him? Or do you want others to do your praying and tell you what God said?

I used to rely on others to pray for me. If I needed prayer, I reached out to those I had confidence in and asked them to pray. If I needed an answer from the Lord, I asked someone I thought might know. For years, I didn’t have a relationship with God. I mindlessly followed those I believed to be strong in the Lord.

Then, God invited me to nightly meetings with Him. At the time, I didn’t understand what was happening, but I felt a strong urge to go out on my deck and pray every night. The first few times it happened, it scared me. I went, but I returned inside quickly. I was afraid of the Lord, and feeling His presence like that terrified me.

But I continued to go. Honestly, I didn’t know how to talk with the Lord. Eventually, I relaxed and just started conversing with Him like a trusted friend. Those nightly meetings quickly became my favorite part of the day. I looked forward to my time with the Lord.

The best part is that God met with me. He taught me so much and helped me tremendously. Sometimes, all I could do was cry, but He stayed with me through every tear.

If we desire to know the Lord deeply, He will meet us and develop a beautiful relationship with us. God wants to explain the scriptures to us and guide us through this life.

We all have the freedom of choice and can decide how to spend our time. God doesn’t talk over the TV or chase us down. He invites us, and it’s up to us to accept His invitation. When we step away from the things of the world and give God our attention, He will talk to us.

My kids used to open the back door and say, “Mom, when you get finished talking to God, I need you. “
