God Taught Me How to Love Again

Let the love in, sweet friends!
Years ago, I asked my niece if she would be my best friend. She was about three at the time. She told me no. I was a little shocked. But what she said next hurt my feelings and cut me deep. She told me that I close my heart to people.
At first, it made me mad, and I thought she didn’t know what she was talking about, but the more I thought about it and prayed about it, I realized it was true.
I’ve been hurt so deeply by those I never thought would hurt me. All those wounds of my broken heart left scars. So when people hurt me, I closed my heart to them. While I was still friendly, my heart was locked tight.
I didn’t know how to open it again because I didn’t want any more heartache. But I also knew that I couldn’t continue loving with conditions. I did a lot of praying, and God showed me how to forgive and love.
I truly believe that we are all just doing the best that we can do. We all have circumstances beyond our control. We all have pain that we don’t know how to process. We all fight the same enemy who wants to divide us, so we will be easier to conquer.
Love is a gift. When we love others, it is really a gift we give to ourselves. Loving other people makes us feel good. The more we give to others, the more God allows us to experience His amazing love, especially when we learn to love without expectations or conditions.
Anytime I have a problem with someone else, and I talk to God about it, He usually gives me the same answer: love them.
Love can move mountains. It can build bridges and heal wounded hearts. And we can all choose to give it freely and learn to love deeply without conditions. When I struggle, I ask God to show me how to love like He loves.
