I love a checklist. Marking off each item makes me feel a sense of accomplishment. A to-do list helps me stay on track and accomplish the tasks each day. Some things, however, can’t be just put on a list and checked off. My relationship with God is one example.
While it would be easy to think that my relationship with God is a list of daily tasks that need to be checked off, it is so much more. Yes, I need to read my Bible each day and pray, but doing those things because they are simply on a list won’t bring me any closer to God. It is more beneficial for us to read one scripture with a desire in our heart to understand it than to read several chapters out of duty or obligation.
The one thing that God wants from us is our desire to spend time with Him. God wants us to desire Him more than anything else in the world. When we read our Bibles with a desire to know more about our Lord, then God will give us the understanding that we are seeking. When we pray because we have a longing to talk to God, then He will hear us, and, in His time, He will answer us.
When we desire to be close to Him, He will help us. It all starts with us. And then desire must come from our hearts.
I love it when I crave His word and He blesses me with understanding. I love it when I get connected with Him in prayer. He satisfies my soul and speaks peace to me. When we reach the point where we desire God more than anything else, then He will bless us with His wisdom and help us grow in our faith. And my sweet friends, there is nothing like truly spending time with Him.
