Do You Want More Love in Your Life?

Relationships are hard. We never reach a place where everything is perfect and we can simply coast. Every day, we must choose to love our family and friends again. Loving people — truly loving them — takes work. It requires forgiveness, compassion, and choosing love even when our hearts are breaking.

Love is always the answer. Regardless of the struggle, love can conquer them all.

So often, we let little things come between us. A tiny disagreement becomes a huge problem. Before long, we’re keeping score — what we do, what they don’t do — and bitterness grows.

But love doesn’t keep score.

When we love others just as they are, without expecting them to earn it, we experience the kind of love God has for us. Placing restrictions on our love because someone isn’t acting the way we think they should — that is not unconditional love.

I’ve learned something powerful:
When I can love someone without restrictions or a scorecard, it has very little to do with them. Love flows from who Iam, not from who they are. That’s how God loves us.

1 John 4:19 (KJV)
We love him, because he first loved us.

God loves each of us in all our messiness.
He loves us when we sin.
He loves us when we ignore Him.
He loves us when we follow the enemy instead of Him.
He even loves us when we use the breath He gave us to deny Him.

God loves us — not because we deserve it — but because He is love.

Every day, we should strive to love others this same way.

We live in a fallen world filled with pain, but it is also filled with love. The world wants us to focus on the pain, but God wants us to focus on love. Imagine how different our homes, schools, and communities would be if we all loved one another as God loves us.

It starts with you and me.

Today, we can choose to love others as God loves us. In doing so, we teach everyone we encounter what God’s love looks like. We model the kind of life we want our children to live. And the more love we give, the more love fills our own hearts.

It is a beautiful, holy process.
