Do You Do What the Lord Tells You to Do?

I never mean to be disobedient. I never tell the Lord, “I won’t do that.” But my actions often tell a different story. Delay is also disobedience. And not making time for my Lord is another form of it.

Sometimes I mean well and have the best of intentions, but what I mean to do and what I actually do get tangled up in a big mess. I meant to write, but time got away from me—so I’ll do it tomorrow. I meant to pray about that hardship, but I couldn’t seem to connect. I’ll try again tomorrow.

Romans 7:19 (KJV)
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

The problem is that tomorrow never comes. It’s always some other time, just out of reach. I’m sure there are countless failed dreams, hidden gifts, and unanswered prayers living in the land of tomorrow.

Psalm 118:24 (KJV)
24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

But today is the day the Lord has made. Today is the time to serve Him and do what He’s calling us to do. We can’t live in any other moment than this one.

I don’t want to put it off for another day. I don’t want to procrastinate my gifts until they’re buried under so many tomorrows that I never use them.

One of the ways the enemy defeats us is through distraction. If he can keep us distracted long enough, we drift into disobedience. Knowing that distraction leads to defeat makes me want to start my day focused—intentional about putting God first.

When I’m intentional about spending time with the Lord, and I put Him first, my day goes so much better. Letting Him give me my orders for the day sets me up for peace and productivity. It shows Him that He is important to me.

So often we tell the Lord we love Him with our mouths, but our hearts are far from Him. We want the blessing without any effort on our part. But what if He blesses our efforts?

Proverbs 12:14 (KJV)
14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

Sometimes we think we’re waiting on God to bless us when He’s waiting on us to do our part.

I believe that when we do our part—faithfully and wholeheartedly—God will do His part and bless us abundantly.

Every day, we get to decide how we’ll spend our time. We can hit the ground running, trying to figure everything out on our own, or we can begin in the presence of the Lord.

He already knows the way. He has the plan.

Will you let Him show you the way?
