Built by Listening, Not Striving

How often do we wait for the big breakthrough moments and ignore the little nudges along the way?

It’s the little moments of obedience that propel us forward. God notices each one. Nothing we do or don’t escapes Him. The enemy wants us to believe we are either doing too much or not enough, but God knows the exact formula. If we follow Him, it will be exactly the right amount of everything.

I read something this morning that inspired me.

Your calling won’t be built by striving. It will be built by listening.

It brought tears to my eyes and made me think of how many times I have cried out to God, telling Him I didn’t know what to do. So I worked harder to figure it all out, burned myself out, and made this work feel like a chore rather than a blessing. All because I was striving to do a good job without even listening to God for instructions.

There’s something so beautiful about sitting with God in the quiet moments and listening for His voice. I love it when He opens the scriptures to me and reveals the answers I have longed for. Sometimes, He shows me that He sees me and understands what I am going through by giving me a scripture that is exactly what I need.

When I make life all about me, I end up thinking the little things aren’t important. Then I miss beautiful opportunities because I’m looking for something other than what God wants me to do.

It makes me think of Naaman in the Bible. God gave Naaman a simple task for complete healing, and it made him mad. He wanted something greater. And if that doesn’t sum me up perfectly and explain a lot of my problems.

I don’t intentionally dismiss the little things. But sometimes they seem too small to make a big difference.

But the difference comes from God. He is the One who does the blessing. Therefore, anything He gives us to do is important.

Sweet friends, it’s a constant battle to do anything for God. The enemy wants to steal the moments, the beautiful things God wants to build through us, and the difference we might make by following God.

We can fight back with obedience. Every time we do what God puts on our hearts to do, we make a difference and build something wonderful with our God.
