Are We Making Ourselves Miserable?

This morning as my alarm sounded, my first thought was I don’t want to get up. Followed by, I’m so sleepy. Then, as I stood up and my foot hurt, I thought, today is going to be so hard with my foot. By this time, I was brushing my teeth and becoming more alert. As another bad thought entered my mind, I stopped it. I looked at my reflection and said, thank you, Lord, for another day.

Then, I proceeded to thank Him for various things in my life. During the night it was raining extremely hard, but I was inside my home warm and dry. I have electricity this morning and really good coffee. I have the ability to see to read my Bible, and the Lord in my heart to understand it. After I started looking for things to be grateful for my bad mood shifted. It’s hard to be in a bad mood and grateful at the same time.

I could turn on the news right now and be outraged about something. If I really wanted to find something to complain about, then it would only take me a moment to start listing my complaints. When we focus on our troubles, then we seem to find more troubles. The same is true, however, for my blessings. It’s whatever we decide to focus on.

Today, I encourage you to focus on all the good in your life. It may seem hard at first, but when we start our day with a grateful heart, then the rest of our day will go so much better. When we can learn how to become grateful during the hard times, then we will open our life to even more things to be grateful for.

What are you grateful for today!

Love and blessings,

Candida
