Anchor Your Hope: How Faith Fuels the Fight

Sometimes, we undervalue the importance of hope. To a soul who is teetering on the edge of hopelessness, hope is a lifeline. It turns our situation into a longing for something better. As long as we can focus on what we desire, amid the turmoil, we have something to anchor our minds to.

We all go through hard times.

We all struggle through moments that steal our breath and knock us down.

We all find ourselves in times of survival, just trying to make it through the day.

The key is to focus on what we want when we go through hardships and trials. As long as we can see where we want to be and believe that we can eventually get there, we can endure the pain of right now. It is especially powerful if we can anchor our hope to something greater than ourselves.

When I was so sick, debating giving up the thing I loved so much, God gave me a vision that changed everything. In my darkest hour, He shone light onto my hopes and dreams. As I lay in bed, I saw a vision of kids all around me. One after another flashed before my eyes, smiling. God showed me all the people we would help if I didn’t give up.

The hope of helping others and making a difference gave me what I needed to fight to get better. Instead of signing up for disability, I signed up for the gym. Every time I wanted to quit, I pushed through my pain and remembered those I wanted to help.

That same desire is what gets me out of bed at 4 a.m. It’s what pushes me to write when I would rather sleep in. The desire to help someone else get out of pain is what fuels me.

My life is not just about me. If I made it all about me, I wouldn’t have the grit I need to do all the things I do. One of the most beautiful things we can do is to decide to be a living testimony for God. To wake up each day and ask God who He wants us to help. To love on others and care for ourselves in the same way.

When we learn to live from love, every part of life feels better. We can do those mounds of laundry in love and service because we love the ones we are servicing. Our food tastes better when we sprinkle in some grateful prayers.

The enemy tries to steal our joy for life. He wants us to be miserable in every situation and at every moment. He constantly tries to redirect our thoughts toward anger, hurt, resentment, guilt, shame, etc. If he can get us stuck in misery, we will lose sight of hope.

Sweet friend, if you feel like you don’t have anything to live for, sit with the Lord. Share all of your thoughts and feelings with Him. Ask Him to restore your hope and to give you a Godly perspective of life. It might not change your situation, but it will change your thoughts about your situation.
